Why Hang a Crucifix in Your Home?

God has entrusted your home and your family to you—to love and care for, to guide each other to Heaven, to raise little saints, and to welcome others into your domestic church. Your home is a sacred space.  

Waking up and seeing Jesus’ loving sacrifice every day is a reminder that your vocation—whether in marriage or family life—is also a call to loving sacrifice. Hanging a crucifix in your bedroom and throughout your home allows you to lift your eyes to Jesus throughout the day and draw the strength, patience, and grace needed to love your family well.

The Crucifix and Marriage  

In an act of love, Christ laid down His life for His bride, the Church. *In the same way, our marriages are meant to reflect that sacrificial love.*  

There’s a beautiful tradition that explains why the groom wears black on his wedding day—it symbolizes his willingness to die to himself for the sake of his bride. On the altar, he lays down his old self, devoting himself completely to loving, protecting, and leading his wife to Heaven.  

As brides, we too lay down our old life—to be led and loved by the man Christ has given us, and if God wills it, to lay down our lives for the sake of new life through the bearing and raising of children.  

This is so contrary to what our culture teaches. The world says, *“Do what makes you feel good.”* But true love—the love Christ modeled—is self-giving, sacrificial, and sanctifying.  

Marriage is meant to make us holy. And we can’t do it without the help of Christ.  

A Crucifix in Your Bedroom: A Reminder of Your Vocation

Placing a crucifix in your bedroom serves as a powerful daily reminder that marriage is a call to holiness. It reminds us:  

– To love our spouse as Christ loves the Church—selflessly and sacrificially.  

– To lead and be led in love, seeking each other’s sanctification.  

– To lift our eyes to Jesus in times of struggle, remembering that He is the source of our strength.  

Whether you place a crucifix above your bed, by your prayer space, or in another prominent place, let it be a beacon of Christ’s love and grace in your home.
