Rediscover the power of this prayer.

One of the most simple yet powerful ways to Catholify your home is by keeping Holy Water in your home and using it daily. This beautiful sacramental, given to us by the Church, is a tangible reminder of our baptismal call—to repent, believe in the Gospel, and embrace our identity as beloved sons and daughters of God.

The Power of Holy Water

Holy Water is not just symbolic; it carries spiritual grace. It is used in blessings, exorcisms, and sacraments to remind us of our purification in Christ and baptism, and our continual call to conversion. Every time we bless ourselves with Holy Water, we are renewing our baptismal promises and inviting God’s protection over our lives.

I invite you to trace a cross on your forehead with Holy Water each day as a reminder of:

– Jesus calling you to ongoing conversion.

– Your identity as a child of God.

– The Father’s blessing and protection over you.

We have holy water bottles in our room on one of our nightstands, in our guest room, and on our entry way table. This way it’s accessible to us in many places in our home especially before bed and before we leave the house.

Blessing Your Spouse & Family Before Bed

Each night, Trey and I pray together, switching off who leads. At the end of our prayer, Trey leans over, draws a cross on my forehead, and blesses me before we go to sleep. This small, intentional act has become a powerful ritual in our marriage—a moment of grace where we place one another in God’s hands and entrust our rest to Him.

If you are married, it’s important to note that the blessing of a husband and father, as the spiritual leader of the home, carries incredible weight. His prayer of protection over his wife and children is a beautiful way to reflect the leadership of Christ in the domestic church.

If you don’t already do this, I encourage you to start making it a habit. Bless each other before bed. If you have Holy Water handy, even better!

Building Your Domestic Church

The home is the first school of faith—the place where we live out our vocation and grow in holiness together. Small practices, like keeping Holy Water available and using it daily, deepen our awareness of God’s presence and invite His grace into our family life. I absolutely LOVE the travel size Holy Water Spritzer from West Coast Catholic because it is so easy to travel with and spritz yourself and your loved ones.

Let’s reclaim the beauty of these traditions and Catholify our homes, one sacred habit at a time.
