Trusting the Person Over the Plan
Navigating life’s changes is inherently challenging, often prompting questions about the future and God’s plan for us. But this journey is about embracing trust in God Himself—our Father—and understanding our identity as His children. How do we cultivate faith greater than our fears? It’s about surrendering control, fixing our eyes on the Lord, and sharing personal stories that anchor us in truth amidst anxiety.
The Power of Throwing Away Fears
In the talk, I introduced an activity that I believe is both liberating and symbolic: writing down fears on a sticky note, listing the lies surrounding them, and then throwing those notes across the room. This act is a profound reminder to release those fears and lies, creating space for God’s truth to fill that void. We all face moments where fear paralyzes us. Yet, fear and anxiety are not from the Lord. They need not define us.
Embracing God’s Peace
I shared the story of Jesus calling Peter to walk on water— a vivid illustration of stepping out in faith. Fear can cause us to sink when we focus on understanding rather than faith. But scripture assures us peace exists beyond understanding, urging us to trust God’s character rather than the road map. “Do not fear, for I am with you,” reverberates through the Bible, highlighting that although anxiety surfaces, it can be dispelled through faith and prayer.
Practical Tools for Rooting in Faith
Overcoming fear requires action as well as faith. I advocate for practical habits that ground us in truth:
- Daily Prayer: Engage in practices like the Rosary or the Surrender Novena to invite peace into your routine.
- Biblical Declarations: Clothe yourself in affirmations rooted in scripture, serving as daily reminders of God’s promises.
- Christ-Centered Community: Surround yourself with a community that nurtures your faith, offering support and prayers in times of need.
A poignant memory I shared was at a women’s conference where a fear I penned on a sticky note was read aloud—”I fear being called to speak publicly.” Yet, those fears were countered by the truth spoken by nearly 200 women writing affirmations. This community is what bolsters us when courage falters.
