In today’s episode of The Ever Be Podcast, we explore a meaningful and much-needed topic: the art of slowing down and finding freedom in doing less. I’m Mari Wagner, and whether you’re a new listener or a loyal follower, I’m thrilled that you’re here joining me for this conversation because it’s one so many of us need right now.
The Gift of Vulnerability and Honesty
Recently, I’ve found myself mentally and emotionally stretched thin, feeling maxed out with all the responsibilities and projects I’ve taken on. I’m sharing my heart with you because I know I’m not alone in this. I’ve been called to rest, to step away from the chaos and the endless scroll of social media, to truly embrace stillness and silence. It turns out, this is exactly what my soul needs right now.
Slowing Down and Seeking Silence
I’m taking the leap into a week free from the noise of social media. Instead, I’m giving myself permission to slow down and find joy in simple, life-giving activities. From exploring a beautiful river trail to enjoying creativity through painting, I’m leaning into what fills my spirit without the pressure of productivity. If you feel the same nudge, know that it’s okay to take a break and seek silence. It’s in the stillness that we can truly encounter God.
Lies We Believe and the Truth We Need
The world tells us that success means constantly producing and doing. I’ve struggled with lies like, “If I’m not busy, I’m falling behind.” But these are not truths from God. God calls us to abide in Him, not to constantly strive. It’s when we rest in God’s grace that we receive His perfect peace and guidance.
Practical Steps Toward Rest
For those feeling overwhelmed, here are some practical steps to build more peace into your life:
- Build Margin: Leave space in your schedule for rest and unexpected moments.
- Create Silence: Enjoy pockets of quiet without the noise of music or podcasts.
- Trust in God’s Work: Ask God what is yours to carry today and trust Him with the rest.
- Indulge in Joyful Activities: Spend time on hobbies that refresh your spirit and make you feel alive.
- Sabbath Rest: Embrace the true essence of a day of rest that replenishes both body and soul.
An Invitation to Abide
Above all, remember that you were created to abide and walk with God, not to sprint ahead. Take this as your permission slip to pause, reflect, and embrace a slower pace.
Close with Prayer
Let’s end this moment by grounding ourselves in prayer:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Dear Jesus, we lay down all our burdens and to-dos, seeking your peace in our striving. Help us to be still and find comfort in knowing that you are God. Teach us to trust, to walk in step with you, and to find our rest in your presence. We ask all of this in your holy name and through the intercession of your mother, Mary. Amen.
Join me in this journey of rest and renewal. As we lean into the grace of slowing down, may we all find what our hearts truly need. I hope this episode brings encouragement, and I can’t wait to hear how you, too, are finding new rhythms of peace. Until next time, stay blessed and inspired.
